Teens / Young Adults
This young population is often in need of a neutral space to express and explore all of the feelings and changes going on in their lives. Finding a balance between connection, validation, and directive skill building guides Christina’s approach to working with this age group. Having therapeutic support while going through intense life transitions can be invaluable.
Anxiety
Whether it be generalized anxiety, panic disorders, or OCD, anxiety is a common challenge among many individuals. Utilizing a combination of CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Exposure Therapy, and DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), Christina is competent in helping individuals to explore their vulnerabilities and fears while working with them to develop effective coping strategies and new behaviors that lead to a greater quality of life.
Depression
The various types of depression can present in many ways. Christina works with those experiencing a mild manner of depression (which may sometimes present as low motivation and energy), as well individuals struggling with self-harm and suicidal ideation. Christina offers support for individuals and families feeling paralyzed by the fear of emotionality and reactivity that can sometimes be exhibited by individuals who engage in high-risk or self-harming behaviors.
Behavioral Challenges
Christina works with adolescents struggling with a variety of behavioral challenges, often including school problems and/or at-home behavior issues. Some possible causes of these behaviors may be ADHD, developmental problems, anxiety, depression, ODD, or even lack of coping strategies. Understanding the root-cause of issues can direct treatment. Helping teens to feel connected and access resources while also working with parents around limit setting and validation strategies can facilitate positive behavior change.
Parent Support
In working with adolescents and young adults, Christina has also gained a wealth of experience in offering therapeutic support to parents who are struggling to know how to help their young-ones thrive. Whether it may be knowing how to cope with a suicidal teenager or figuring out the delicate balance between nurturing a positive relationship while also setting limits, the therapeutic space is a great way to explore parenting strategies and build confidence.
Nutrition
Christina has a certificate in Nutritional Psychology from JFK University and supports clients in improving nutrition and life-style factors that are strongly connected to mental health.
